There are plenty of studies saying things like red wine and dark chocolate have lots of health benefits...and we can now add lengthening your life to that list!
According to a new study, an anti-inflammatory diet that includes wine, chocolate, and beer can help you live longer. Researchers analyzed data from more than 68,000 men and women between 45 and 83 years old and followed them for 16 years. And it turns out, those who most closely followed an anti-inflammatory diet had an 18% lower risk of death over the 16 years.
So what can we eat to cut our risk of an early death by almost 20%? Foods high in anti-inflammatory properties, including fruits, veggies, tea, coffee, olive oil, and nuts. And since chocolate, beer, and wine are also full of antioxidants, we can enjoy those guilt-free - in moderation, of course. On the flip side, inflammatory foods like processed red meat, organ meats, fries, and sodas are still bad news for the body.
The study findings also show a 20% lower risk of dying from heart disease, and a 13% lower risk of dying from cancer, compared to those who followed the diet to a lesser degree. Lead study author Dr. Joanna Kaluza says even partially following the anti-inflammatory diet provides a health benefit, so even if you’re not all in, you’re still better off.
