After Charlie, an 11-year-old golden retriever, lost his eyesight to glaucoma, the dog had a hard time seeing where he was going. But now the blind dog is getting some help from his very own seeing eye dog, a puppy named Maverick.
Charlie’s owners, Adam and Chelsea Stipe brought the four-month-old puppy home back in January, but the dogs didn’t get along right off the bat. But a few months in and now they’re best buddies, with Charlie learning to rely on his younger sidekick for help with walking, playing, eating and he even uses him as a pillow.
The North Carolina couple found that when Charlie would lose a toy, Maverick would pick it up and put it back in front of him to “re-engage playtime.” Chelsea says it’s great to watch when the dogs play because “Charlie turns into such a puppy,” adding, “It’s sweet to see them get along and enjoy each other.”
