This Dad Is Running An Ultramarathon Dressed As Forrest Gump For Charity

Running a marathon is an impressive accomplishment on it’s own, but an ultramarathon? That’s a whole new level of commitment. Rob Pope is about to run a 156-mile marathon in the desert, all while dressed up like Forrest Gump. And he’s doing it for a good cause.

The father of one is running the Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara Desert while dressed like the beloved character from the movie to raise money and awareness for the World Wildlife fund and Peace Direct. And while 156-miles is an incredible distance to travel on foot, it’s far from the longest for his guy. Rob previously ran 15,700 miles across the country back in 2016, so he’s got this.

“This new challenge is a continuation of me trying to raise awareness for causes I care about,” Rob explains. “I think Forrest Gump — and specifically the character of Forrest — is a beautiful tale of life and how we should treat one another.”

The race is underway now and Rob is set to be back home April 15th. Follow his journey and learn more about his cause on his site, Going the Distance.
