Make Your Home Eco-Friendly - Some Easy Tips

If you recycle your wine bottles and think that’s doing your part to help the environment, there’s so much more you could do. In honor of Earth Day this week, here are a few ways to practice sustainability and minimize waste, so you can go greener and live more eco-friendly.

  • Buy reusable bags- Stop adding to that messy wad of plastic bags under your kitchen sink and buy reusable shopping bags to use for groceries, takeout, and more. Pretty soon, if you shop at Wegmans, you'll have to do this anyway - since they're doing away with plastic bags by the end of the year!
  • Try reusable produce bags- Cut back further on waste by investing in reusable cotton bags for your fruits, veggies, and herbs and you won’t need those flimsy plastic bags again.
  • Use jars for storage- Forget about Ziplocks and use glass jars to store leftovers and snacks instead.
  • Rethink your coffee routine- Love your Keurig but not the waste the K-Cups create? Get a reusable K-Cup filter that you can refill with your own coffee and reuse again and again.
  • Switch to reusable cleaning concentrates- No need to toss the bottle when your glass, tub and tile, or counter cleaner runs out. Just add one of these packs of cleaning concentrate to a refillable spray bottle, shake, and you’re all set.
  • Try a shampoo bar- Ditch the plastic bottle and clean your hair and scalp with a shampoo bar instead.
  • Minimize online shopping- All those packing materials, cardboard boxes, and shipping labels create a lot of excess waste and not all of it can be recycled. So even though online shopping is convenient, shopping local and buying in person is better for the planet.
  • Set up a recycling system that works for you- Get some dedicated bins for plastic, glass, and paper, then get into a routine with recycling and soon it’ll be second nature.
