Granger Smith shared an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming film, Moonrise, on Tuesday (December 6), as he prepares for its official premiere this month.

Smith is making his acting debut as he stars in the film by the faith-based entertainment platform Pure Flix, which also shared the sneak peek on Tuesday. Smith plays Will Brown, a country singer who’s mourning the loss of his wife. Brown’s grief sidelines his career and pushes him away from his young daughter until a bright and talented horse trainer shows him strength, forgiveness and grace to live life again,” the film’s description reads. It's set to release on December 15.

“I connected instantly with this character as soon as I read the script,” Smith said. “He’s not a man of many words. He hides his pain. He wants to be the rock for his family, you know, he wants to work hard and not show emotion so that everyone else around him could just move forward. But he’s the only one holding him back, and he doesn’t see it that way.”

Smith, a real-life country artist and host of After MidNite, also released a new 12-track album of the same name. Moonrise, the movie soundtrack, was a project that Smith “definitely didn’t expect” to pursue this year. “Before long, I had 12 brand new songs and a complete album. This was so different than any other process of music making that I’ve been involved in with, and I LOVED every minute of it.”
