The Rochester City Council has approved a pay raise for city police officers.
The raise was proposed by an arbitrator after the city and the police union couldn't agree on compensation.
And officers who worked during the pandemic will be getting a $4,000 bonus, on top of the raise.
The deal also makes Juneteenth a departmental holiday.
The vote by the council was 6 to 3, with opponents arguing other crisis workers deserve more pay -- and funds should be steered toward services for the mentally ill and at-risk youth.
