Target's Enhanced Safety Measures for Holiday Shopping Season

Holiday shopping is bound to look and feel a lot different this season due to the coronavirus. Many people are probably worried about staying safe while out shopping in stores, and Target is now taking extra steps to make sure they feel as safe as possible.

The big box store just announced a new set of safety measures for the holiday season, hoping to make customers' shopping experience easy and safe. The new measures are in addition to the ones they introduced in March at the beginning of the pandemic.

New safety measures include:

  • Contactless In-Store Payment– Instead of using an in-store scanning devices, customers can use Wallet, the mobile payment option in the Target app, for contactless checkout. They then can simply settle their order through self-check out or with a team member.
  • Pre-Trip Shopping Reservations– Target will continue to limit the total number of people inside the store, but during the holidays, fans can go to their website to see if there’s a line outside their local store, and if so, reserve a spot. They will then receive a text when it’s their time to shop.
  • MyCheckout– Target will add 1,000 more MyCheckout devices so team members can help guests checkout anywhere in the store, skipping the lines.

Target will also up their game when it comes to same-day services.

  • They will add double the drive-up spots, so guests can shop via the app and then pull up and have the items brought directly to their car.
  • They’ve also eliminated the need for barcode scanning at drive up, so customers and employees will be able to socially distance.
  • Shoppers will be able to adjust, in real time, how thy want to pick up their items, whether it be order pickup or drive up.
  • They are offering expanded same-day assortment, allowing customers to have same-day services for all their holiday needs, including toys, apparel and food.
